SOLAR MEMORY
Years of UV exposure can eventually show as freckles, solar lentigines and uneven pigmentation, especially where the sun reaches most often: the face, the backs of the hands and the décolletage.
We can treat the visible signs of that history. Your daily photoprotection helps decide what your skin records next.
01 · UV EXPOSURE
Year-round tropical sun, every day, on the same areas.
02 · PIGMENT BUILDS UP
Pigment accumulates unevenly in the upper layers of the skin.
03 · VISIBLE SPOTS
Defined brown spots appear, often years later.
WHAT ARE WE ACTUALLY TREATING?
People often use the same words for very different pigmentation. We do not treat a colour; we assess the pigment pattern first.
Usually well-defined tan to brown spots linked to cumulative UV exposure, common on the face, hands, shoulders and décolletage.
This page
Small, usually multiple spots with a genetic influence that often become more visible with sun exposure.
This page
A common everyday term, usually for solar lentigines. Age is not the only driver: cumulative light exposure matters.
This page
Typically broader, often symmetrical and recurrent. It needs a control-and-maintenance strategy, not simple spot correction.
Pigment after acne, irritation, injury or a procedure. It should not be treated like a sun spot by default.
A new, changing, irregular, symptomatic or uncertain pigmented lesion needs medical assessment before any cosmetic treatment.
Medical assessment first
They can all look brown. They should not all be treated the same way.
DIAGNOSE · MAP · TARGET · PROTECT
Know the spot before you treat the spot.
SHOW US YOUR SPOT
Choose the closest description. It points you to the right first step, not to a diagnosis: that only happens at your assessment.
YOUR FIRST STEP
Single spot assessment
One clearly defined spot may not need a full-face treatment at all. We confirm it is a benign lesion suitable for cosmetic correction, then plan a precise, focal treatment.
Book my Pigment Mapping (opens the booking system in a new tab)VICTORIA PIGMENT MAPPING™
Pigment Mapping looks at the pattern, distribution, likely depth and suitability of your visible pigmentation before any technology is chosen.
If a spot should not be treated cosmetically, we will tell you.
SMART PICOSECOND TECHNOLOGY
Picosecond lasers deliver energy in ultra-short pulses, measured in trillionths of a second. On selected benign pigmented spots, this creates a strong photoacoustic effect that breaks up pigment, with settings adapted to the spot and to your skin.
Picosecond does not mean zero risk, zero heat or automatic suitability for every skin type. Diagnosis, wavelength, energy, spot size, endpoint, recent sun exposure and aftercare all matter.
The device does not make the diagnosis.
PULSE LENGTH · ILLUSTRATIVE
WAVELENGTH STRATEGY
Wavelengths are chosen by the clinician for the target in front of them, never picked from a menu.
532nm
Superficial pigment
Published picosecond evidence for selected superficial spots such as solar lentigines and freckles. Because surface melanin also absorbs it, patient and setting selection matter even more.
755nm
Selected lentigines
Randomised evidence supports 755 nm picosecond treatment for selected solar lentigines. Useful for certain spots and skin types, not automatically the best for everyone.
1064nm
Longer wavelength
Lower absorption by surface melanin. Its role depends on the real target and depth; it is not a universal answer for every age spot.
COULD ONE SESSION BE ENOUGH?
Selected solar lentigines or freckles may improve substantially after one well-chosen treatment. Others need more sessions, because pigment density, depth, location, skin type and your own response all vary.
That is why we assess the spot first, rather than selling everyone the same package.
FACE · HANDS · DÉCOLLETAGE
Shoulders, forearms and other selected areas can also be considered after assessment. Each area behaves differently and is planned on its own terms.
01Cheeks, temples, forehead and selected facial freckles or lentigines.
02The backs of the hands collect years of daily sun and can look photodamaged even when the face is well cared for.
03The upper chest often shows mixed sun damage. Its skin behaves differently from the face and is planned conservatively.
PREMIUM PROGRAMME
Face + hands + décolletage. A physician-supervised, multi-area Pigment Mapping and staged correction plan for when your visible sun history goes beyond the face. Not every area receives the same wavelength, settings or number of sessions.
TWO DIFFERENT PATHWAYS
Not sure which one you have? That is exactly what Pigment Mapping is for.
Sun spot
Melasma
SKIN OF COLOUR · PIH-AWARE TREATMENT
In melanin-rich skin, normal surface pigment competes with the target for laser energy. That makes the diagnosis, wavelength, endpoint and aftercare especially important. In one study of picosecond treatment for facial sun spots in medium skin tones, results were meaningful, yet some sessions were still followed by temporary darkening.
YOUR TREATMENT DAY
Brief snapping or stinging sensations may occur. Comfort varies from person to person and from one area to another.
01 · MAP
We confirm which spots are selected for treatment and record the baseline.
02 · PREPARE
The area is cleansed, your eyes are protected and comfort measures are chosen for the area.
03 · TARGET
Each selected spot or zone is treated with the wavelength and settings chosen for that pigment and skin type.
04 · CALM
Cooling and barrier support where clinically appropriate.
05 · PROTECT
You leave with written aftercare, sun-protection guidance and a planned review, not an automatic repeat.
AFTER SPOT CORRECTION
Every spot responds in its own way. This is the usual pattern, not a promise of an exact sequence.
FIRST HOURS
Temporary redness, mild swelling, whitening or a colour change, depending on the endpoint.
FOLLOWING DAYS
Selected treated spots may temporarily look darker.
RECOVERY
Superficial crusting or flaking can occur. Do not pick, scrub or force it off.
REVEAL
As the skin recovers, treated pigment can progressively look lighter.
REVIEW
Once the reaction settles, we decide whether any residual pigment needs more treatment.
Contact the clinic about unexpected blistering, increasing pain, signs of infection, prolonged marked inflammation or any pigment change that worries you.
WILL MY SPOTS COME BACK?
A successfully treated spot may stay substantially improved, but laser does not stop ageing or future sun exposure. New freckles or lentigines can appear over time, and individual spots can behave differently.
REALISTIC OUTCOMES
We are optimistic about focal pigment, and honest about the fact that every person and every spot responds differently.

THE VICTORIA TREATMENT INTEGRITY PROMISE™
Pigment Mapping exists to work out what the spot needs, not to push every brown mark into the same treatment. If a spot looks unsuitable for cosmetic laser, needs a different pigment pathway or deserves further medical evaluation, we will tell you.
We treat the pigment pattern, not just the spot.
WHY VICTORIA AESTHETICS
Medical direction by Dr. Eric Licea, MD, and a Laser Centre that looks at the whole pattern of sun damage, not only the darkest spot.
Cosmetic treatment only follows an appropriate assessment of the spot.
Pattern, distribution, skin type and previous response guide the plan.
Technology is chosen for the target, never one setting for everyone.
The risks of darkening and lightening are discussed openly.
Face, hands and décolletage planned as one picture of sun damage.
No guaranteed one-session clearance, zero downtime or permanent prevention.
QUESTIONS
If a spot has changed recently, tell us before your appointment: it needs a medical look first.
'Age spot' is an everyday term often used for solar lentigines: benign pigmented spots linked to cumulative light exposure. An assessment still matters, because not every brown spot is a solar lentigo.
No. Freckles (ephelides) and solar lentigines differ biologically and in how they behave, although both can become more visible with sun and may look similar.
Picosecond lasers are among the treatment options with published evidence for solar lentigines. Suitability, wavelength and settings depend on the type of spot, your skin type and the area.
For some selected spots, one treatment may bring substantial improvement. Others need more sessions. We review your response rather than promise everyone the same course.
A treated spot may stay substantially improved, but new pigmentation can develop with future sun exposure and ageing. Daily sun protection remains essential.
Selected melanin-rich skin can be treated, but post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation and hypopigmentation are recognised risks. Diagnosis, wavelength, endpoint, recent sun exposure and aftercare all matter.
Because freckles, lentigines, melasma, post-inflammatory pigmentation, moles and uncertain lesions are not the same. The right identification comes before any cosmetic treatment.
Sun & Spot Precision™ focuses on selected focal, benign pigmentation. Melasma is chronic and recurrent and needs a broader control-and-maintenance strategy.
Selected spots can be treated after assessment. These areas differ from facial skin and can need different settings, staging and recovery expectations.
Potentially, yes. Single spot correction is designed for one clearly defined spot that has been assessed as appropriate for cosmetic treatment.
Not necessarily. It is an optional add-on for suitable facial patients on an eligible 3-session plan, and it may be adjusted or left out.
Recent tanning, sunburn or significant sun exposure can change whether you can be treated. The clinical team may advise waiting.
Of course. Pigment Mapping lets you choose which areas concern you, rather than assuming every freckle should go.
Tell the clinical team. A changing, irregular or symptomatic spot should be assessed medically rather than treated as cosmetic pigmentation.
