HOW DOES A PENILE IMPLANT WORK?
Three parts, one discreet system.
An inflatable implant includes two cylinders placed into the shaft of the penis, a pump positioned in the scrotum, and a reservoir of saline in the abdomen at the base of the scrotum.
When you squeeze the pump in your scrotum, saline moves into the cylinders, creating a rigid erection. The implant remains inflated as long as you want, even after climax. When you are ready, you squeeze the pump again to return the penis to a flaccid, soft state.
The prosthesis is a third-line option in the European Association of Urology guidelines: it is what we consider once oral treatments and other therapies have been tried.
WHAT DOES A PENILE IMPLANT LOOK LIKE?
Invisible, once it is yours.
Before your surgeon places it inside your body, the implant looks like two heavy-duty, oval balloons. Depending on the type of implant, the balloons may attach to tubing, a valve or a plastic reservoir.
After surgery, your body conceals any penile implant. It is contained entirely within the body and is not visible externally — nobody can tell you have one unless you choose to share it.

European urology guidelines consider the inflatable penile prosthesis a valid third-line treatment for erectile dysfunction — for men in whom other therapies have not worked.
Orgasm and ejaculation are not the target
The device provides rigidity; it typically does not interfere with orgasm or ejaculation, and skin sensation is usually preserved.
Infection risk, much reduced
With antibiotic-coated devices, no-touch surgical technique and modern theatre standards, published infection rates have fallen to around 1% or less.
Most men resume intimacy at about six weeks
