A fine optical fibre, placed through a standard IV cannula, bathes the blood flowing past it in low-level laser light. It is photobiomodulation — light that works at the level of the cell — offered as a physician-supervised complementary therapy.

WHAT IS IV LASER THERAPY?
Intravenous laser irradiation of blood — often shortened to ILIB — has been used in clinical practice since the early 1980s. A thin, sterile optical fibre is passed through a cannula into a vein in the arm, and low-level laser light irradiates the blood as it flows past.
The light is gentle: it does not heat or cut. Its effects are attributed to photobiomodulation, in which red and near-infrared light is absorbed by an enzyme in the mitochondria — cytochrome c oxidase — supporting cellular energy production. Because the whole blood volume circulates past the fibre, the therapy is considered systemic rather than local.
THE COLOURS OF LIGHT
Multi-wavelength intravenous laser systems can deliver light of different colours. The best-studied are red and near-infrared.
≈ 630–660 nm
The classic ILIB wavelength. Absorbed by cytochrome c oxidase in the mitochondria, where it is associated with cellular energy production and microcirculation.
≈ 800–810 nm
Invisible to the eye and also absorbed in the mitochondria. Widely used in photobiomodulation research, including studies on pain and inflammation.
MULTI-WAVELENGTH
Additional wavelengths offered by some systems, each with its own proposed target. Research on these is earlier, and their use is decided by the doctor.
WHAT THE SCIENCE SAYS
We would rather tell you where the evidence stands than sell you certainty that does not yet exist.
Systematic reviews describe a range of biological effects of intravenous laser irradiation of blood, including improved blood flow properties, better oxygen-carrying capacity of red cells, immune regulation, and reductions in inflammatory markers and oxidative stress.
Clinical studies have explored its use for musculoskeletal pain, sleep, and recovery, with encouraging results. The same reviews are candid about the limits: most studies are small, protocols and doses are not yet standardised, and larger randomised trials are needed.
That is why IV laser therapy is offered here as a physician-supervised complementary therapy — planned around your goals, and reviewed as you go.

01
Your goals, medical history and medication are reviewed, including anything that makes you sensitive to light. If IV laser therapy suits you, we explain what to expect in plain language.
02
A standard IV cannula is placed in the arm, and a sterile, single-use optical fibre is passed through it into the vein.
03
You relax in a reclining chair while the laser runs. The light is painless — most patients read, rest or listen to music. Whether to combine it with an IV drip in the same visit is decided by the specialist.
04
IV laser therapy is usually given as a course. Dr. Licea sets the number and frequency of sessions and reviews your response along the way.

QUESTIONS
Intravenous laser irradiation of blood: a thin optical fibre is placed in a vein through a standard cannula, and low-level laser light irradiates the blood as it flows past. It has been used in clinical practice since the early 1980s.
No. You feel the cannula being placed, as with any IV. The light itself is low-level: it does not heat or cut, and is painless.
Through photobiomodulation. Red and near-infrared light is absorbed by cytochrome c oxidase, an enzyme in the mitochondria, which is associated with cellular energy production. Reviews also describe effects on blood flow properties, immune regulation, inflammation and oxidative stress.
Promising but still evolving. Clinical studies on pain, sleep and recovery are encouraging, but most are small and protocols are not yet standardised. That is why we offer it as a complementary, physician-supervised therapy.
Wellness & Anti-Ageing Intravenous Laser Therapy is SCR 2,112 per session. The number of sessions in your course is set by Dr. Licea at your consultation.
IV laser therapy is usually given as a course. Dr. Licea sets the number, length and frequency of sessions according to your goals and your response.
It can be, when the specialist considers it appropriate for you. The decision is made at your consultation, based on your goals and your health.
We adjust or decline treatment in pregnancy, active cancer, light-sensitivity disorders or photosensitising medication, bleeding disorders or anticoagulant treatment, and active infection at the cannula site. Tell us about every medication you take.

The compliment we hear most is how restful it was.
“I expected something clinical. It was the most restful hour of my week.”
“They were clear about what the research shows and what it doesn’t. I appreciated that.”
“I combine it with my IV drip. One visit, two treatments, and I feel recharged.”
“No pain at all after the cannula. I read my book the whole time.”
